Stephen Coger

NWA Attorney Musician

  • AID
  • Lover Lover

My name is Stephen Coger, and my story starts in Danville, Arkansas. I was raised by a creative, loving family and church and community, and that catapulted me into some really, really fun adventures.

I lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas for years and was in the Razorback Marching Band there. I worked at Legal Aid of Arkansas for years, and then left to work abroad as a Fulbright Scholar in Argentina.

I returned to the States to study law at UW Law in Seattle as a Bill Gates Public Service Law Scholar. Just 5 students each year are chosen for this fantastic gift, and I am so thankful to have graduated law school debt free.

Thanks to Papa Gates, as we fondly referred to him, I was able to return to Arkansas and start a nonprofit called Arkansas Immigrant Defense. AID serves immigrants and refugees and I do my best to make sure those services are low bono or pro bono for those who need this sacred work but cannot afford it.

I started a really, deeply nourishing music project called Lover Lover, too. I sing a sort of folk with hints of my gospel-jazz roots in Danville. Reach out if you’d like. Thank you for stopping by.

With thanks,

Stephen Coger
